Brian Williams

Local artist, Brian, lives just off East Street, with studios in Thurlow Street and in New Cross.  On arrival at his studios, one is confronted by an explosion of colour. Brian’s work is very figurative and is often dominated by images of women. The influence of Picasso can be seen in the almost cubist style he uses to paint and draw.  Brian’s style has developed over the years and his current work is quite individual with striking images using bright, vibrant colours and bold line drawings.

Brian has an exceptional talent, covering a range of artistic media and in 2011, he was awarded ‘Emerging Talent’ by the Southwark Arts Forum at their annual SAFTAs…

“One would hardly expect an emerging talent to be discovered at the age of 67 – but if not now … then when?”

Following that prestigious award, Brian was selected as the featured artist in a changing exhibition of contemporary art by artists from Southwark Arts Forum in the iconic and world-famous Tower Bridge – in specially converted exhibition spaces in the Victorian Engine Rooms and South Tower. The work on show reflected Tower Bridge as a landmark, and the Thames from the perspective of the local community.
